Sreedharan plans post-retirement life in Kerala

Metro Man E Sreedharan is eager to go to Kerala after his retirement. He has spent 15 years revolutionising Delhi by spreading world-class Metro network in the capital.
Mr Sreedharan, 78, will be retiring on December 31, 2010 when his fourth extension granted by the Delhi government will end. The second phase of the Delhi Metro is also over and major parts of the city and its neighbourhood have been connected.

“The Phase-II is almost complete. There is a great sense of achievement among the DMRC staff,” Mr Sreedharan told a news agency. He has been heading the Delhi Metro Rail corporation since its inception in 1995.
“I think I have achieved whatever I could. There is nothing left to achieve.”
Mr Sreedharan, underwent a beating heart surgery in April. Now he wants to spend the rest of his life in Kerala.
“I will go to Kerala after retirement. I am looking forward to spend rest of my life at my native place in Kerala,” he said.
Reports are doing the rounds that the Delhi government wants to give him another extension, but there is no clarity whether Mr Sreedharan will accept.
According to the sources, Mr Sreedharan will go back to Kerala after his retirement as he has always been keen to return to his home town near Thrissur. The sources further say that the Metro chief’s sons want him to be in Kerala once he retires. His home is getting ready to welcome him.
“Renovation work of his home has started. His son is getting all this done, keeping in view, his father’s needs in mind,” the sources said.
The first Metro train rolled out in 2002 on a small stretch in north Delhi and within a span of eight years, the network has grown to nearly 180 km connecting the national capital with the satellite cities of Noida and Gurgaon.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
