Stalked, harassed woman alleges her FIR not lodged

A woman working with ministry of information and broadcasting has alleged that a stalker has been harassing her for the past six months by sending her lewd SMSes and uploading her photo on a social networking site, but the Delhi police refused to lodge an FIR in this respect.
The victim had lodged a complaint in this respect at the Ambedkar Nagar Police Station on May 3, but the police has not taken any action so far. The victim’s family members said that in spite of the complaint the mobile number of the accused is still active.
Speaking to this newspaper, DCP (southeast) P. Karunakaran said he was not aware about the matter.
“If the girl is being harassed she can meet me directly, I promise action will be taken,” he said pointing out that he would speak to local police in this connection.
According to information, the victim lives in Dakshinpuri Extension in southeast Delhi with her family. Her father works in home ministry.
The victim told this newspaper that the accused has been stalking and calling her continuously since April 25.
Initially, she did not disclose the matter to her family thinking the stalker would stop calling her. However, she later informed her family members when the accused continued sending lewd SMSes to her and even kept calling her.
When the victim’s father spoke to him he disconnected the phone and when her mother called him he started using abusive language. The accused then even started calling her mother.
The harassed family then decided to lodge an FIR at the Ambedkar Nagar Police Station. They lodged a complaint but the police did not take any action.
The victim said that the stalker knows everything about her.
She said that once when she was in Sarojini Nagar market, he clicked her pictures surreptitiously, uploaded them on a social networking site and tagged her too.
“He created two fake profiles, one male and another of a female. He tagged me in photographs and also wrote lewd remark. I deleted all the comments and blocked both the profiles,” she said.
Meanwhile, a senior police official posted at the Ambedkar Nagar Police Station said they advised the victim and her family to approach the cyber cell for FIR.
“Such crimes come under cyber cell, they should approach cyber cell,” said the senior official.
