Storm, light showers bring respite
Parts of the city experienced light showers on Saturday evening, bringing relief from the heat and high humidity level after a pleasant Friday. The showers brought in big relief after the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.2 degrees Celsius on Saturday about four degrees above Friday’s 37.7 degrees Celsius, according to the Met department. There is hope for rain or thundershowers on Sunday, says a met report.
After a pleasant morning, the temperature rose and strong dust-laden winds swept across the city in the day. The humidity levels, which had on Friday remained in the vicinity of 50 per cent and less, reached the highest of 70 per cent on Saturday. Though the weather department had forecast rain or thundershowers, parts of the city recorded barely traceable amounts of rain.
However, despite the weather being relatively pleasant, not many seemed enthused about the strong winds blowing through the better part of the day.
With the entire city practically dug up for Common-wealth Games preparations, the concentration of suspended particulate matter has been high and strong winds only add to the woes. “The moment I open the windows to let fresh air in, I have to deal with dust that enters the house,” said Soni, a housewife in Malviya Nagar.
“The developments are isolated in nature. Their impact may remain for a couple of days. But the day temperature across the northern region is likely to rise by two to three degrees,” said a weather department official.
The weatherman has forecast partly cloudy sky with possibility of rain or thundershowers, accompanied with squall in some areas towards the evening or night on Sunday.
The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 41 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.
