Student, 22, ends life, girl sets self ablaze
A 22-year-old student allegedly committed suicide at his Mandawali residence on Saturday evening. The deceased, identified as Mani Shankar, a resident of Sonebhadra district in Uttar Pradesh, was pursuing a diploma course in computer networking from a private institute.
He was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his rented accommodation in A-block, Mandawali, on Saturday evening by his friends.
“When his friends arrived at the house, they found it bolted. When they knocked the door, there was no response following which they broke open the door and found Shankar hanging. They called the police control room after which a team of cops rushed to the spot. He was taken to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead,” a senior police official said.
The deceased didn’t leave behind any suicide note and the reason for committing suicide could not be ascertained, the police said.
“We have talked to his parents and the statement of his friends are recorded. It appears that Shankar was depressed because of which he took the extreme step. He was having a love affair with a girl who is also being questioned,” the official said.
A case has been registered at the Mandawali police station and investigation is on.
Meanwhile, a 16-year-old girl set herself on fire at her residence in Kirti Nagar in west Delhi on Saturday.
According to the police, the incident was reported from Kamla Nehru slum clusters in Kirti Nagar. Her family members were not at home when she attempted self-immolation. The police is suspecting that the victim was in love and wanted to get married but her parents were objecting.
