Student is asked to do social service

A 23-year-old graduation student, who had allegedly injured three Delhi police personnel while trying to escape from their clutches after he was caught by them for allegedly jumping a red light four years ago, was directed by the Delhi high court to render social service with an NGO, Prayas, for a year.

In an interesting order, Justice Hima Kohli on Wednesday quashed the FIR registered against the accused, Lalit Beniwal, after the two parties, Beniwal and the three injured Delhi police personnel — Gopal Krishan, Suhaib Ahmed and Pawan — amicably settled the matter.
Justice Kohli directed Beniwal to render his service to Prayas, the home for children conflicting with law, for one hour every week for a year.
The court also imposed Rs 2 lakh fine on Beniwal and made it clear that Rs 25,000 each will be given to the victims who were seriously injured in the incident that took place on March 13, 2006.
The court said, apart from this, the rest of the amount would be deposited equally with the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), Delhi Police Welfare Fund and Traffic Police Training Park.
According to the FIR, on March 3, 2006, Beniwal, a college student then, was caught by the police after he had allegedly jumped the red light near Deepali Chowk in Saraswati Vihar.
After being caught by the police, Beniwal had allegedly argued with three policemen — Krishan, Ahmed and Pawan — and later tried to run his Santro car over two of them, causing serious injuries to them.
Beniwal was arrested 13 days after the incident for his rash and negligent act and an FIR was lodged for his erratic behaviour and his attempt to run over the policemen.
The court, however, had granted bail a month after Beniwal was arrested by the Delhi police and a chargesheet was filed by the prosecution in March 2008.
The parties last year had settled the issue out of court and filed a petition for quashing of the FIR.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
