Student dies as minibus overturns

A minor student was killed and 11 others were injured when a speeding minibus overturned near the under construction Signature Bridge in Wazirabad on Monday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Manjeet, 12, a student of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya in Timarpur. The incident took place at the diversion near the Signature Bridge in Wazirbad at around 7.25 am on Monday. The police officials said a group of students were travelling in the bus, along with local commuters, when the driver of the bus, Bittoo, lost control over his vehicle and it turned turtle.
“Since the bus was speeding, the driver could not negotiate a sharp turn leading to the accident. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital where Manjeet was declared brought dead while the others, including eight students, have suffered bruises and minor fractures,” a senior police official said.
