Student jumps off building
A Class 11 student of Somerville School in east Delhi jumped from the third floor on Tuesday afternoon after he was rebuked by his teachers for allegedly carrying a liquor bottle in his school bag.
Police officials said the condition of the victim is critical and he has been put on life support system at Dharamshila Cancer Hospital in East Delhi. The incident took place at around 1 pm when a teacher of the 16-year-old victim found a liquor bottle in his bag.
“The teacher was shocked to find the bottle and took the victim to the principal’s chamber where he was rebuked. The principal called a meeting with other teachers and it was decided that the matter should be taken up with the parents of the boy,” a police official said.
When the meeting was over, the teacher, who had caught the victim, asked him to go back to his class.
“However, the victim, a student of arts, went to the terrace of the school building and was attempting to jump down when a girl student present there held his hand and threatened to inform the teachers. However, the victim went to the other end of the terrace and jumped from there,” the official said.
The victim landed on the ground with a thud and started bleeding profusely.
Students, who spotted him lying on the ground injured, alerted the school administration and he was rushed to Dharamshila Hospital where he has been admitted in the Intensive Care Unit.
The school authorities informed his parents, who live in Pocket IV of Vasundhra Enclave, and they arrived at the hospital.
“The victim is not in a condition to give a statement to us as yet,” a senior police official added.
