Sudden morning shower catches Delhiites unaware

Delhiites ran for cover as heavy rains lashed the national capital this morning throwing traffic out of gear in several areas and causing water-logging in some places.

The sudden deluge this morning brought down the temperature, giving much-needed respite to denizens who have been enduring humid and sweltry conditions for the last few days.

The city received intermittent rainfall measuring 8.8 mm over the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 this morning, the MeT office here said.

The minimum temperature was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius, while the maximum was recorded at 31 degrees Celsius.

The rains threw traffic out of gear in several areas, including ITO, Laxmi Nagar and R K Puram. Water-logging was reported from several parts of the city.

The wait for seasonal rains in Delhi ended yesterday with the southwest monsoon touching the capital three days ahead of its normal onset.

In 2010, the monsoon had a late arrival in the capital. The seasonal rains started only on July five last year after a delay of a week.

The earliest onset of monsoon over Delhi during the past 30 years was on June 15, 2008 and while the most delayed onset was on July 26,
