Suspected PLA member arrested
An alleged active member of the banned militant outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) has been arrested by the special cell of the Delhi police.
According to the police, the man, identified as 28-year-old Oinam Ibomcha Singh, was arrested from opposite the “Aapno Rasoi” restaurant in Vijay Nagar, north Delhi, on Friday evening.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Singh, who had studied till Class 12, had joined the PLA in 1999-2000. “He underwent a training in handling arms and ammunition in the Maoist camps in Burma and was active in areas like Delhi, Guwahati and Dimapur in Assam,” said a senior police official.
Singh was wanted in many cases reported from Manipur, including that of attempt to murder and extortion. He was one of the two PLA militants, who had entered the premises of the Airtel tower in Imphal in March 2010 and damaged equipment. PLA militants are equipped with sophisticated arms and have been involved in extortion, killings and other terrorist activities.
