Swanky toilet project plan is still hanging
Even as the MCD on Friday launched public toilets that use innovative technology to reduce waste generation, its plans to construct more than 200 swanky toilet complexes and 1,000 waterless urinals in the capital before the Commonwealth Games-2010 hangs afire.
Delhi mayor P.R. Sawhney launched the bio-toilet and electronic toilet at two separate places. While at Nigambodh Ghat parking, a bio-toilet was launched, an electronic toilet complex was started at Kudsia Park. The bio-toilet uses bacteria to turn human waste into odourless liquid, which is easy to discharge into the sewer. Also, water requirement in these kind of toilets is very less. In the electronic toilets, the discharge of water would be controlled using sensors. If the experimental operations in the next fortnight are successful, the MCD will consider installing such toilets at a few Commonwealth Games venues. Meanwhile, MCD officials said that out of the planned 216 swanky toilet complexes, which will have a cafeteria and a florist, only two have been completed.
