Teacher hits pupil, damages eardrum
Flouting all norms prohibiting corporal punishment to students, a teacher of a city school allegedly beat up a 19-year-old Class 12 student for doing English homework in the political science period causing partial deafness to the student.
A senior police official said the incident occurred at the PGDAV School, West Patel Nagar, in Central Delhi on August 3.
The victim student has been identified as Nitin Kumar, a native of Meerut, U.P. The family members of the victim have alleged that the boy has become partially deaf and has lost hearing ability in one ear.
“On August 3, Nitin was in the classroom. The first period got over and the next period was of political science. The accused teacher, identified as Kiran Pal, entered the classroom and found that Nitin was doing homework of English. The teacher got angry over this and punished Nitin. When Nitin decided to meet school principal, the teacher slapped him on his ear,” said the police official.
Nitin reached home and felt pain in his ear. He was taken to a private hospital by his mother. The doctors at the hospital told his mother that his eardrum had got damaged.
The family members of the victim then decided to lodge a police complaint. The family subsequently lodged an FIR in this respect.
“The errant teacher is absconding after the incident,” said the official.
