Teachers in DU protest centralised sports trials
Sports teachers in Delhi University held a protest over conducting centralised sports trials in the university. The authorities reiterated saying that the trials have been centralised in the interest of the students.
“Every college is known for some sports or the other. We will not be able to form teams if the admissions are centralised. This is arbitrary on the VC’s part,” a college teacher said.
The university authorities said that the centralised trials will benefit the students. “The sports trials are centralised for the benefit of the students. The students appear for nearly half-a-dozen trials during the time of admissions which drains them out. They do not even get recovery time. Sometimes, the dates clash. The colleges should think of the larger good,” sports department director Dr Sudershan Pathak said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi University Sports Council issued admit cards for centralised sports trials to about 1,500 students aspiring to be admitted to the under-graduate level in various colleges. All those who have applied under the sports quota in the colleges can obtain their admit cards from the Office of the Delhi University Sports Council till June 21.
As per the schedule displayed at the Delhi University Sports Council, the university is holding Centralised Sports Trials at one place and are being evaluated by a set of experts.
Some people have raised the question of relative marks for participation at the zonal and national level.
