Tech to help cops spy data transfer
Technology will assist security personnel in keeping a hawk’s eye within and outside the Commonwealth Games venues. The Commonwealth Games Organising Committee is putting in place technology systems at each stadium for electronic surveillance.
The Organising Committee is installing two technology systems, Games data network (GDN) and stadium data network (SDN), to ensure fool-proof surveillance. These networks will be capable of surveillance at the venue and in the perimeter of 500 metres outside it, said a senior official involved with the execution of the project.
“The two technology systems, GDN and SDN, will help the security personnel to keep an eye on all the data transfer taking place from laptops, mobile phones or any other electronic devices at the venue and will also give location of the target device to help intervene in quick time if there be a need,” the official informed.
The two technology systems are in the process of installation at each stadium and will be operationalised much before the Games start. “These are being installed in a bid to thwart any attempt of subversive elements to create security problems. The incidents on the eve of a cricket match in Bengaluru last year have also been kept in the mind,” added the official.
