Technical glitches rile Metro riders
Technical glitches once again gave Delhi Metro passengers a harrowing time commuting on the busy Dwarka and Gurgaon lines on Monday. The service on Noida line was delayed due to technical glitches, while trains on the Gurgaon Line were run manually at a restricted speed following a track circuit failure.
Services on the Line 3 (Dwarka Sec-21 to Noida City Centre/Anand Vihar) were affected in the morning after a train developed a technical problem.
According to a Delhi Metro spokesperson, the train heading towards Dwarka developed a technical problem near Kirti Nagar Metro Station at around 8.30 am. The train was rushed to a nearby depot.
“The exercise took about 20 minutes and normalcy was restored immediately,” the spokesperson said.
However, it took over an hour to clear the backlog as the platforms were flooded with passengers. Stations like Anand Vihar, Lakshmi Nagar and Dwarka were overcrowded with passengers standing on platforms waiting for trains.
“I had to wait for more than 20 minutes at the Yamuna Vihar Station and when the train arrived it was packed and moved slowly,” said Ritika, a software professional.
The spokesperson said the trains are being run at a slow speed on the Gurgaon line due to track circuit failure near the INA Metro Station.
“The problem has been identified and will be rectified in the night as taking up repair immediately will lead to further delay in services,” the spokesman said.
A track circuit is a simple electrical device used to detect the presence of a train on rail tracks and is used to inform signallers and control relevant signals.
The Dwarka and Gurgaon lines register a ridership of over 12 lakhs per day.
