Temp dips, but power demand up
The heat and humidity in the city abated on Friday with the maximum temperature being recorded at 39 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature which had broken records of the last 41 years at 34.7 degrees Celsius on Thursday, also came down to 28.4 degrees. While the maximum t
emperature was two degrees less than the normal, the minimum temperature did not show any deviation. The change in the weather pattern is likely to continue over the next few days with the entire northern region experiencing isolated rains or thundershowers. The rain activity is likely to increase over the next couple of days, said a weather department official.
Meanwhile, even as the weather remained pleasant, the peak power demand in the capital crossed the 4,500 MW mark. On May 25, the capital had recorded the season’s highest peak demand at 4,581 MW. On Friday, it was 4,502 MW.
According to the weatherman, the sky is likely to remain partly cloudy on Saturday with the possibility of rain or thundershowers accompanied with squall in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperature is expected to hover around 39 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius.
