Tenders floated for metro line to faridabad

The Delhi Metro has put a step forward to become the lifeline of the national capital. The Delhi Metro has fast-tracked work on the crucial link that connects the capital with the satellite city of Faridabad by floating tenders for all nine stations on the 14-km corridor. The fully-elevated corridor, the longest Metro line in the NCR, will be constructed at an estimated cost of `2,533 crores by 2016 when the Delhi Metro’s Phase-III is expected to be completed.
Once the corridor becomes operational, Faridabad will become the fourth satellite city in the NCR to be connected through Delhi Metro network. The corridor till YMCA Chowk in Faridabad is the longest Metro expansion in the NCR region. Meanwhile, the high-speed Airport Metro Express commuters would soon be able to park their vehicles without any hassles with the operator planning to inaugurate the multi-level car parking at Shivaji Stadium station in a month’s time.

Aiims Ex-official gets 3-yr jail for taking bribe
Age Correspondent
New Delhi, Feb. 6

A city court sentenced to three years’ imprisonment a former medical superintendent of AIIMS for accepting a bribe in 1998.
Special judge B.R. Kedia handed down the sentence to R.C. Anand for accepting bribe for not blacklisting a firm which used to supply absorbent cotton rolls.
The court refused leniency to Anand saying the “cancer of corruption has spread its tentacles in the social life to such an extent that the belief of common man on the institutional work is obliterated.”
“Keeping in mind that the case in hand displays the modalities of corruption being adopted even by the top administrative officer like medical superintendent of AIIMS which happens to be the prime medical institute, I hereby sentence the convict R.C. Anand to undergo RI for a period of three years,” the court said. He had demanded bribe from Sageer Ahmad Khan, the proprietor of Shifaa Scientific Fibres. He was arrested by the anti-corruption branch of Delhi police accepting bribe of `10,000.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
