Terrace eatery at Civic Centre?
Restaurants, five-star hotels, farmhouses with motels and commercial use of its parks for purposes of filming are some of the innovative measures mentioned in the MCD budget for the year 2011-12.
The Leader of the House, Subhash Arya said that Ghumman Hera in outer Delhi, where a landfill site had been proposed earlier, will now be earmarked for development of either an amusement park, a five-star hotel or five farmhouses with motels.
The decision has been made after serious reservations were expressed by the civil aviation authorities, which maintained that birds getting attracted to garbage at a place close to the airport would be a flying hazard.
The MCD also plans to open a top-floor/terrace restaurant, with a separate lift facility and facilitating “Dilli Darshan”, at the Civic Centre, its new headquarters near Jantar Mantar in the heart of the city. Further, the MCD will open a food plaza on Minto Road.
The MCD has further decided to rake in moolah by giving permission to shoot films or commercials in its parks.
In another measure to raise revenue, the MCD plans to provide 20 open tehbazari kiosks of 6x4 feet in each ward, which will be allotted to local residents on priority.
A gymnasium will come up in each ward for which `5 crores have been allocated.

AGE CORRESPONDENT
NEW DELHI
Feb. 14: Apart from putting the list of property owners on its website, the MCD is now ready to host a range of facilities online.
Leader of the House in MCD, Subhash Arya, on Monday said that each of the 272 councillors would be given a password to access the website, where they can upload the works carried out from their funds. The MCD has increased the councillor’s funds to `2 crore for the next fiscal, besides increasing it for the remaining part of this fiscal. Further, the MCD staff will be able to check their salary and PF details online. The exercise will help the civic body, which has been facing the problem of ghost employees, in better monitoring.
The good news for traders is that they can get new trade licences and renewals online. Later, food trade licences too would be given online.
The councillors have also written to Union home minister P. Chidambaram seeking a salary and allowances that would come to about `31,000 a month.
