Tight security for Diwali, cops on alert
The Delhi police has beefed security arrangements across the capital ahead of Diwali.
Extra police personnel have been deployed in all major markets and at bus stands, railway stations. Commandos have been deployed to tackle any untoward situation.
The move comes in the wake of the recent high court blast. Also, in 2005, the terrorists did a series of blasts on Diwali.
The police had seized an explosives-laden car at the Ambala railway station parking recently. The Delhi police does not want to take any chances and has appealed to the citizens to be alert.
Security personnel have been deployed at Lajpat Nagar, Green Park, Karol Bagh, Paharganj, Connaught Place, Defence Colony and other markets in big number. The bomb disposal squad has also been deployed in sensitive areas. The police is closely monitoring CCTV cameras. Metal detectors have been deployed in various markets.
“Police personnel will be deployed in bigger number with each day. Apart from 1,700 police personnel, four companies of RAC will also be deployed on Diwali to foil any untoward incident,” a senior police official said.
The police has asked the local traders, trade associations, hotel and guest house owners to be on alert and intimate them if they notice any suspicious person.
The traffic police has also made special arrangements to ensure smooth traffic during the festival. Both heavy vehicles and slow vehicles including cycles, cycle rickshaws, hand carts etc., have been banned in the Walled City from Monday to Thursday. Several stretches have been made one way to ensure free flow of traffic.
