Tight security ring for practice venues

With just ninety-six days remaining for the kickstart to Commonwealth Games, the Delhi police has put in place a plan for the security during the mega sports event. While, there will be tight security at the Major Dhyan Chand and Talkatora stadiums, sources have confirmed that even areas near Delhi University (DU) campus and the Jamia Millia Islamia will have high security arrangements.

“Two stadiums in the Jamia and DU will be used by athletes for practice. The nearby areas will have high security and deployment of PCR vans,” said a senior police officer.
The security arrangements and extra deployment of police in Jamia and DU areas is likely to begin in the first week of September, confirmed police officers. A senior city government official confirmed that there will be a strict vigil in the areas near DU and Jamia and all vehicles will be checked. Meanwhile, senior police officers said that they might set up two temporary police posts near the practice stadiums. “The police posts will be operational till the Games,” said a senior officer. The Delhi police commandos, who are being trained at the NSG training campus at Manesar, are likely to be deployed at the two practice stadiums.
There will be close to 1,000 police officers and central paramilitary force officials apart from NSG commandos at strategic locations at each Games venue — 60 to 70 of these will be Delhi police commandos. “I will personally monitor the whole security situation during Games and we have all the coordination from the organising committee and city government,” Mr Dadwal said.
Meanwhile, a hop-on hop-off bus service is likely to be started by September 15 for Games tourists. “The buses will ply on routes divided in sectors based on historical monuments, markets and eateries,” Delhi chief secretary Rakesh Mehta said on Monday.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
