Tihar inmates attempt to flee, one missing
Two Tihar inmates made a jailbreak attempt on Tuesday when the jail officials were escorting them back to Jail No. 1 from the Tihar Jail’s De-addiction Centre. However, one of the prisoners was later apprehended while the other is still at large, believed to be inside the complex.
The incident took place at around 4.30 pm when jail officials were shifting 10 inmates from the De-addiction Centre in Jail No. 3, which is close to the periphery wall to Jail No. 1, confirmed Tihar Jail public relations officer Sunil Gupta. Mr Gupta further added that the two inmates — Satish, 28, and Sanju, 24, — broke open the jail van’s rear door and fled the spot. “However, Satish was apprehended later from inside the prison complex,” he said. The Tihar Jail officials further stated: “It is believed that Sanju is also inside the complex. Searches are on to arrest them.”
Satish was brought on March 10 in an attempt to murder case in Uttam Nagar while Sanju was brought to the jail on March 11 in connection with a theft case in Vikaspuri. Both of them knew each other and are residents of Kali Basti in Uttam Nagar.
