Trade Fair opens, showcases India’s diversity
The 30th edition of the 14-day business and cultural extravaganza, the India International Trade Fair, got underway at Pragati Maidan here on Sunday promising a kaleidoscope of India’s diversity, coupled with a focus on business with the domestic and international stakeholders. The Union commerce minister Anand Sharma, who inaugurated the fair, also promised a world-class exhibition and convention centre. This time, 23 countries are participating as compared to 28 in 2009.
Mr Sharma said that his ministry was pursuing the matter with the ministry of urban development and the Delhi Development Authority to establish a world-class exhibition and convention facility at the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO). “Many steps have been taken and hopefully, before this year is out, things should roll out and definitely in the tenure of this government itself, Delhi will have one of the finest world-class facilities,” he said.
Some of the interesting stalls being put up include the stall set up by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) for instant DNA profiling as part of the CSIR Technofest that was inaugurated by Union human resources development minister Kapil Sibal. The DNA profiling stall is likely to attract crowds as people would be handed over their DNA samples within few minutes.
The Bihar pavilion showcases the history of Nalanda University, which existed during the time of Chanakya.
This year Maharashtra enjoys the status of partner state, while Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh are focus states. The first five days have been reserved for business visitors and the general public would be allowed from November 19, beginning 9.30 a.m.
