Unidentified armed assailants brutally killed a 29-year-old woman by slitting her throat with a wire after holding a domestic help hostage at gunpoint and kidnapped her three-year-old son.
A senior police official said that the incident took place in Mayur Vihar Phase III, east Delhi, on Saturday afternoon. The police got a call about the incident at around 12 pm. The deceased was identified as Mahee, alias Moi. She lived on the second floor of the house.
The police suspects that the family members of the deceased could be involved in the incident as she had a love marriage and her brother was against her marriage.
The official further said that on Saturday afternoon, Mahee was at home with her three-year-old son Ishu and her domestic help Veena.
According to the police, three persons came on a motorcycle, two of whom knocked the door while the third waited for them outside.
When Veena opened the door, they held her hostage at gunpoint.
“The accused then had an argument with the deceased. They strangled her to death with a wire. The accused then picked her son Ishu, ran downstairs and fled. The neighbours gathered at the spot when the help raised an alarm. The police was informed about the incident and a team was immediately sent to the spot,” said a senior police official.
The official said the assailants also robbed jewellery before fleeing.
“Her husband Iman, who runs a shop of readymade garments, was not home when the incident occurred. Iman married Mahee around four years ago. Iman earlier used to run a mobile accessories shop. We have recorded the statement of the help and have lodged an FIR of murder, robbery-cum-kidnapping,” said the police official.
The official said the brother of Mahee was against her marriage. Her family had threatened her of dire consequence.
“We are probing the case with all possible angles. We are trying to ascertain whether Iman has a personal or business rivalry with anyone,” said the police official.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
