Traders down shutters on FDI
Traders in Delhi shut their shops on Thursday supporting the all-India Bandh against the Central government’s decision on approval to FDI in the retail sector. Many markets remained closed.
The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) said that more than 5 lakh city traders supported the bandh. Several political parties, including the BJP, CPI (M), CPI, JD (U), BSP and SP etc., supported the day-long bandh.
“Markets in Walled City, Sadar Bazar, Kamla Nagar, Chawri Bazar, Connaught Place, Karol Bagh, Paharganj, Greater Kailash, South Extension, Lajpat Nagar, Khan Market, Kashmere Gate, Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar, Rohini, Pitampura, Shalimar Bagh, Ashok Vihar, Azadpur, Preet Vihar, Vikas Marg, Shahdara, Krishna Nagar, Tughlaqabad and Kalkaji remained completely closed,” said CAIT state president Narendar Madan.
“The government has utterly failed in providing necessary infrastructure for smooth retail trade in India. It has also failed in keeping a check over largescale hoarding being done by domestic corporate houses and to cover up its failure, it is blaming the traders. This can not be tolerated,” said a traders; association leader.
