Traffic curbs in CP area from Friday
The Delhi police has put in place security and traffic arrangement for Commonwealth Games road events this week-end, including helicopter-borne assault teams and commando hit squads for protection of athletes.
Many routes where the events are to take place have been barricaded and round-the-clock patrolling is underway.
On Saturday morning, 20 km walk will commence from Free Church at Parliament Street.
“The Parliament Street will remain closed for general traffic from Friday night till the event is over by around 10.30 am on October 9,” joint commissioner of police (traffic), Satyendra Garg said.
The cycling competition, which will start 9 am on Sunday, will cover Parliament Street, Red Cross Road, Rajendra Prasad Marg, Janpath, Rajpath and Vijay Chowk besides Outer Circus of Connaught Place, Barakhamba Road, Minto Road and Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.
To facilitate traffic and security arrangements, these routes will be closed from Saturday midnight. The restrictions will remain in force till 7 pm on Sunday, added the police.
