Traffic hit as kanwarias flood NH 24
The commuters on the National Highway 24 (NH 24) had a harrowing time in the morning when several vehicles carrying kanwarias took to this particular road from Ghaziabad to Akshardham on Friday morning. The kanwarias have been given the NH 58, which hits Delhi from the Uttar Pradesh side at Dilshad Garden as a dedicated corridor to facilitate their smooth movement.
This morning, however, several kanwaria vehicles took to NH 24, leading to traffic snarls from Lal Kuan in Ghaziabad to Akshardham. The nearly 10-km traffic snarl could be cleared only in the afternoon when policemen somehow managed to get the vehicles cross the stretch. “It took me nearly two-and-a-half hour to reach Connaught Place from Indirapuram in the morning. Normally, it does not require more than an hour,” said Sanjeev Kumar, a banker. Kanwarias have in the past often caused problems due to their numbers and their haste to reach their destinations quickly.
