Tribute to forests at IIC festival
Forests are vital to our existence on earth. “The IIC Experience 2010”, a festival to be held at the India International (IIC) in New Delhi from October 21 to 27 celebrates the myriad ways in which forests help nurture and sustain organic life on earth.
To be inaugurated by Bhutan’s King Jigme Singye Wangchuck on Thursday in the presence of professor M.G.K. Menon, president, IIC, the seven-day festival will see an amalgam of exhibitions, seminars, talks, films, documentaries, cuisine and performances. The IIC’s annual festival promises to be an affair to remember.
On Thursday, the festival, will pay tribute to Aranyani, the divine spirit of the forest, through a series of events, including exhibitions and a dance-drama in Bharatanatyam, choreographed by Rukmini Arundale and presented by artists of Chennai’s Kalakshetra Foundation. Day 1 will end with a food festival, “A Taste of Datshi: Bhutan”, and the screening of Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s classic crime mystery Rashomon.
According to Indrani Majumdar, assistant programming officer, IIC, “Our whole issue is to present it in its entire dimension. It’s an intellectual exercise and a learning process.”
