Two brothers shot dead, property row suspected
Violent protests broke out in Chawala village in southwest Delhi on Monday evening when two brothers, who were on their way home in a Wagon-R car along with a cop, were shot dead by unidentified assailants.
The police suspects personal enmity or business rivalry to be the reason behind the incident.
The police is suspecting the role of a man who was having a property dispute with the deceased. His name was not disclosed by the police.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 9.45 pm when the deceased, identified as Suresh, 49, and Satender, 32, were returning to their residence in Paprawat village of Chhawla along with a Delhi traffic policeman Vijender in a Wagon-R car. The victims were copper dealers in Mayapuri.
Sources said two armed assailants riding on a motorcycle intercepted them. “They asked Vijender to abandon the car saying that they had no enmity with him. As soon as Vijender left, the assailants opened indiscriminate fire on the duo and escaped from the spot,” a source said.
In the meantime, Vijender rushed to his village and informed the victim’s family about the incident. A PCR call was made and the family, accompanied by the locals, rushed to the spot. A police team rushed the duo to Chanan Devi hospital where doctors declared them brought dead. Doctors said Suresh was shot on his head while Satender suffered bullet injuries in his chest
As the news of their death spread in Paprawat village on Tuesday morning, local residents came out on roads and blocked Nazafgarh-Paprawat road for nearly five hours. The protesters were shouting slogans against the Delhi Police and demanded immediate arrest of the assailants.
“Scores of angry locals first gheraoed the Chhawla police station and shouted slogans against the police for poor law and order situation in the area. The local MLA, who joined the protest demonstration, blamed the Delhi police for the incident. The protesters had blocked the road between 10 am and 2.30 pm causing disruption of traffic. It was only after senior police officials arrived at the spot that the protesters agreed to end their demonstration and traffic was resumed,” a senior police official said.
