Union minister gets fake letter, probe on

A “forged” letter purportedly written by the Congress Lok Sabha MP Khiladi Lal Bairwa was received by the office of Union minister for steel Beni Prasad Verma. The letter recommended the induction of a man into one of the committees headed by the minister.
Police sources disclosed that a detailed inquiry ordered by the steel ministry revealed that the letter was “forged” and was written on fake letter head of the MP, although the report of the forensic laboratory where the letter has been sent for examination, has not been received. After receiving the letter, the steel ministry contacted Mr Bairwa, who represents Rajasthan’s Karauli-Dholpur constituency in Lok Sabha, but he feigned ignorance following which the Delhi police was informed.
Investigations revealed that the letter was delivered at Mr Verma’s office last week. “The letter has been written on the letterhead of Mr Bairwa with his signature at the end, making recommendation for induction of a youth (name withheld) into one of the committees headed by the minister. When Mr Verma read the letter, he became suspicious since the tone of the letter was demeaning and immediately informed Bairwa who told him that he didn’t write any such letter,” a police source said.
“I don’t know who is behind the letter. It isn’t my handwriting and even the signature is not mine. This has happened before. You should ask the Delhi police who is behind these letters,” Mr Bairwa said before disconnecting the call.
“We are waiting for the forensic report. We have questioned the MP and a case has been registered at the Tughlaq Road police station under Sections 420, 468 and 471 of the IPC,” a senior police official said.
