V-C meets Duta to sort issues

In a positive step, the new Delhi University vice-chancellor held a meeting with representatives of the agitating teachers on Thursday to resolve the bitter dispute over the semester system.
The office bearers of the DU Teachers Association (Duta) met vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh for over two hours and discussed their issues of differences.
The meeting came after the registrar’s latest letter to the principals on blocking of the salaries of the striking teachers prompted protests at the Maharaja Agrasen and Ambedkar Colleges in the city.
The vice-chancellor listened to the teachers for two and a half hours, sources said.
They said though the vice-chancellor did not make any commitment to the teachers, but the two sides promised to meet again soon.
“This was a good gesture from the vice-chancellor, and we found him receptive. He said he needed some time to deliberate upon the issues we raised,” Duta secretary Jaffri Abbas said.
“We were never against the semester system per se but we have problems with its suitability and desirability in the current situation,” he said.
