Vehicle theft gang kingpin arrested in U.P.
A man who was heading the gang of jailed vehicle thief Manoj Bakkarwala was arrested from Aligarh in Uttar Pradesh, the city police said on Friday.
Vinod Kumar, who was with Bakkarwala and had opened fire at the police in October last year upon being cornered, was apprehended from Ghabana area in UP’s Aligarh by the Delhi police’s special cell, additional deputy commissioner of the police (special cell) Sanjeev Yadav said.
Kumar, a resident of Aligarh who has a reward of `50,000 on his head, and Bakkarwala had managed to escape from the police net at ITO on October 2011 after firing at the police party. Bakkarwala was, however, arrested this January.
He is allegedly involved in 13 cases of robbery and carjacking in Delhi, UP and Haryana.
“After the arrest of Bakkarwala, Kumar was heading the gang. An input was received about his movements in Delhi-NCR and UP. It was ascertained that he was trying to re-organise his gang,” Mr Yadav said.
Kumar, a school dropout, became a criminal in 2003 when he, along with his cousin Kaptan Singh, allegedly tried to kill a person.
