Victim identifies Sajjan in court
Jagdish Kaur, a key witness in the Delhi Cantonment riots case of 1984 in which Congress leader Sajjan Kumar is facing prosecution, on Saturday identified the leader as the man who instigated the mob on the day of the incident. The woman had lost five members of her family, including her husband, in the incident.
Appearing before additional sessions judge Sunita Gupta, the witness Jagdish Kaur, while being cross-examined by the defence counsel, identified Kumar as the man who incited the mob to carry out the violence. She also identified three others — Kumar’s nephew Balwant Khokkar, Girdhari Lal and Captain Bhagmal — as the Congress leader’s accomplices.
The defence counsel sought to establish that the witness had been changing her testimonies before various authorities from time to time. However, Ms Kaur denied the allegations saying that be it the Nanavati Commission, the CBI or the magistrate in Punjab, she had made same statements before all of them. She added that the authorities have told her that they would take only those statements on record, which are found relevant. The cross-examination will continue on Monday.
