VK slams CM ‘dual standards’
The Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Assembly, V.K. Malhotra has charged the chief minister Sheila Dikshit of adopting “double standards” on the issue of demolition of a mosque and a temple in the city last week.
Prof. Malhotra said that though the chief minister “promptly announced the reconstruction of the mosque in Jangpura area which was demolished following the court order she, however, maintained silence over the demolition of an ancient temple at Pushp Vihar. “She is indulging in politics over the Jangpura mosque and the Pushp Vihar temple by following double standards,” he charged.
Prof. Malhotra appealed to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to make one common guideline for all the religious structures constructed on government land and enforce the same without any discrimination.
Mr Malhotra said that wherever the JJ Colonies were removed, the temples within the area were also removed and were not allotted any alternative site.
“Ms Dikshit did not utter a single word about alternate site or reconstruction of the temple. But, she knocked the doors of Union ministers S. Jaipal Reddy and P. Chidambaram and even Imam Bukhari who is known for fomenting sentiments on the slightest pretext,” Mr Malhotra alleged.
