War for supremacy in Tihar spills out, 3 held
The west Delhi police has arrested three aides of an extortionist lodged in Tihar jail for his involvement in a number of heinous crimes.
The police said the accused, identified as Akbar Khan, 28, Aftab Khan, 32, and Neeraj Gupta, 33, are part of a gang leg by Mohd Khalil, also known as “Godfather”.
“They were arrested from Delhi Gate on Tuesday for attempting to kill a woman after her son had a fight with Khalil at Tihar,” said additional commissioner of police (west) V. Renganathan. The police said the accused allegedly shot at Bimla, 55, on May 2 in Uttam Nagar after her son, Ajay, had an altercation with Khalil in February. “Ajay’s relations with jail inmates deteriorated since the altercation and Khalil wanted to teach him a lesson,” the ACP said.
“Khalil had told them that Ajay was challenging his supremacy and had misbehaved with him on a number of occasions. He asked Akbar to take revenge by shooting his family member,” he said.
“Khalil, a graduate from Jamia Millia Islamia, is allegedly involved in 32 cases. During interrogation, the accused said that they took over the charge of syndicate after MCOCA was initiated against Khalil. Khalil used to direct them whenever he came to appear in the court,” he said.
