Weekend showers cool city, more likely
The city continued to receive intermittent rains on Saturday, with the mercury settling a notch below normal at 32.6 degrees Celsius. The Met office has forecast more rain on Sunday.
“The skies will be partly cloudy tomorrow (Sunday) and parts of the city will get rain,” said an official of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
According to the MeT department, the day temperature settled at 32.6ºC, which was normal for this part of the year. Minimum temperature was recorded at 23.5ºC, little lower than the normal.
On Saturday, the city has received 0.2 mm of rain since 8.30 am till 5.30 pm.
Palam received 12.6 mm, followed by Aya Nagar with 14.3 mm and Hindon with 17.2 mm, a MeT department official said.
The national capital has received 39 per cent excess rain till now, he said.
Residents had to sweat it out throughout the day as humidity fluctuated between 73 and 97 per cent.
On Friday, the maximum temperature was 30.5ºC, three notches below normal while the minimum was 24.5ºC, two notches below normal. Rain on Saturday morning caused commuters to get stranded in several parts of the city as major roads were flooded.
Pedestrians and people riding motorcycles and scooters were seen taking shelter under Metro overbridges and other places, creating traffic bottlenecks. As the rains drenched the city, there were reports of waterlogging from several areas.
