Woman, 23, leaps to death from flyover
A 23-year-old call centre executive jumped to death from a flyover on Thursday morning, hours after she had returned from her Noida office.
The victim, identified as Deepti, a resident of Paschim Vihar, sent her brother a text message saying “sorry” for taking the extreme step. She parked her car on the Moti Nagar flyover before jumping at around 7.15 am.
“Two eyewitnesses, who were just behind her car, saw her jumping,” deputy commissioner of police (west), V. Renganathan said.
The girl, who worked at a call centre in Noida, was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where she was declared brought dead.
“Several angles are being looked into to ascertain the cause of suicide. It can be a case of office harassment or some problems,. We have recovered a diary from her car and her phone call log is being sought to identify the people she was in touch with before committing suicide,” Mr Renganathan said.
Deepti sent two text messages from her mobile saying “sorry” her brother. “The messages were sent moments before the PCR call was received,” the DCP said. Deepti had returned home at around 6.30 am and took out the car, telling her parents that she will be going out for a drive. “We have recorded the statement of her family members and her fellow employees are being questioned,” the DCP said.
Police sources said depression is likely to be the cause behind her suicide, although what triggered the incident is not clear.
“Her car was found parked on the way back home and it appears she was returning and stopped her car to commit suicide,” a senior police official said.
