Woman, 45, jumps before Metro, dies
A 45-year-old woman working with Indian Navy died allegedly after jumping in front of a metro train at the Subhash Nagar Metro Station on Wednesday morning.
The police said the deceased, identified as Maninder Kaur, a resident of Krishna Puri in west Delhi’s Vikaspuri area, allegedly jumped in front of a speeding train as it was chugging into Subhash Nagar Metro Station. A call was made by a commuter to Delhi police’s PCR and the victim was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
“Apparently it looks like a case of suicide. Although no suicide note has been recovered from her possession, her movement as seen on the CCTV footage of the station gives an impression that she jumped in front of the incoming train. The incident took place at around 9 pm,” additional DCP (crime and railways) B.S. Gujjar said.
Later, the police informed her family members and recorded their statements. “From what we have been able to gather from her family, it appears that the victim was depressed over some domestic issues and ended her life over it,” a senior police official said.
The police has sent the body for post-mortem and a case has been registered. The incident interrupted the metro service briefly as the rescue team took nearly 15 minutes to retrieve her body before traffic was resumed on the line.
