Woman, 60, murdered; help detained
A 60-year-old woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death at her Harsh Vihar residence with the police suspecting the involvement of one of her former domestic helps in the incident.
The police said that the incident came to light on Sunday evening when the deceased, identified as Kiran Soni, was found lying in a pool of blood in her bedroom by her husband, Charan Soni, 65, when he returned home. Charan Soni, who deals in garments and jewellery, had gone to Ghaziabad on a business trip and returned to his Harsh Vihar residence at around 9 pm.
“When he reached home, he found the main gate closed. When he called out for Kiran, there was no response following which he informed the neighbours and a call was made to police control room. The door was broken open and the deceased was found lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom,” a senior police official said.
The police is suspecting the involvement of a former domestic help in the incident who has been detained. “We have got some definite leads into the case and we are working on them. We are questioning some people and a breakthrough is expected soon,,” said DCP (northeast) S.K. Jain.
When asked whether any arrests have been made, Mr Jain refused to comment.
Sources said the assailants had gained friendly entry into the house and are suspected to be known to the deceased. The couple has two sons who live separately. “There were injury marks on her neck and head. She probably resisted the assailants since there were scratch marks on her body. The motive behind the incident is unclear as no robbery was carried out at the house,” a source said.
