In a shockingly repellent incident, a 77-year-old woman was assaulted, drugged and raped allegedly by an unidentified rickshaw driver in outer Delhi’s Rohini area on Saturday evening.
The incident came to light on Sunday morning when a passerby noticed an elderly woman lying unconscious behind bushes in Sector 22, Rohini, barely metres away from the K.N. Katju Marg police station. He immediately made a call to the police control room and a team of cops rushed to the spot.
The investigators found that the victim was badly assaulted as there were external injury marks on her body. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she regained her consciousness and narrated the incident to the cops. According to her statement, she had gone to her sister’s residence in Sector 15, Rohini on Saturday.
“When she was returning to Sector 7 in a cycle rickshaw, she noticed that the rickshaw puller took a different route and took her to the Japanese Park area where he picked up an argument with her and attacked her with a brick. The accused made her smell some chemical following which she became semi-conscious and then he raped her,” a police official, quoting the victim’s statement said.
The victim’s two sons started searching for her at around 9.30 pm when she did not return home. They were informed by the police on Sunday morning when the victim was being rushed to the hospital. The victim is undergoing treatment and the police has rounded up around 100 rickshaw pullers. However, no arrests have been made. A case of rape has been registered.
The incident comes as a major embarrassment to the Delhi police which is facing mounting criticism for poor security and increase in crime against women in the city following the murder of Ramlal Anand College student Radhika Tanwar near Dhaula Kuan last week.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.
