‘Woman coaxed rape victim to help accused’
A woman, arrested on the charges of coaxing a 75-year-old rape victim in a courtroom against identifying her alleged rapist, had made a deal with his family that she would persuade her against deposing against him, the police told a court trying the woman.
The station house officer of the Keshavpuram police station, in reply to the court’s notice on the woman’s bail plea, said the accused Renu had made a contract with alleged rapist Pahlad’s father that she would convince the victim not to identify him in the court.
“It has come to light that Renu, who was arrested last week, had contacted Moti Lal, father of Pahlad, and assured him that she would persuade the victim not to identify him during trial and not to depose against him.
“Pahlad’s family will have to make payment for this after the final disposal of the case,” the police told additional chief metropolitan magistrate Vidya Prakash.
The police, in its initial status report, also attached the statement of Pahlad’s father in this regard.
The court, after hearing the arguments on bail, kept the plea pending till November 2 as the sessions judge, who had ordered Renu’s prosecution, has not yet recorded the elderly rape victim’s statement till now.
“It is not in dispute that the statement of the victim has not yet been recorded before the sessions court. Thus, the court finds considerable force in the submission made by the prosecution that the threat of accused Renu to the victim for not deposing in the sessions court, still continues,” ACMM Vidya Prakash said.
