Woman dies, 10 hurt in mishaps

Fog wreaked havoc on city roads as a woman was killed and 10 others were injured in accidents reported in the last 24 hours.
A 55-year-old woman was killed and four others were injured when a speeding truck hit a car and a tempo in north Delhi’s Burari area on Sunday evening apparently after the driver was blinded by fog.

The police said the incident took place at around 10.30 pm on Outer Ring Road near Wazirabad. Two men and a woman were going in a tempo and a car was ahead of them when a speeding truck hit the tempo which in turn crashed into the car. The police said the accident may have occurred due to dense fog.
The victims were rushed to hospital where the woman, Bholi, was declared brought dead. The condition of two others is stated to be critical.
In another incident, a truck rammed into vehicles at a red light in R.K. Puram, south Delhi. The incident took place at around 10 pm near the main red light of Munirka when a truck hit a Hyundai Sonata at the signal.
The Sonata got dragged to around twenty five feet and hit a low-floor DTC bus which in turn hit an Indigo car and an autorickshaw.
The driver of the truck was speeding despite dense fog and failed to see the Sonata. “It is a miracle that there were no causalities. Aadhar Nagpal, 25, driving the Sonata, was rushed to Safdarjung Hospital,” said a police official.
“The truck driver was under the influence of alcohol and was speeding. He failed to see the car resulting in the accident,” Captain Nagpal, father of Aadhar, told the police. There was a traffic jam at the spot and the police to take the help of cranes to lift the damaged vehicles and clear the traffic.
In another incident, a Maruti van crashed into a road divider in Timarpur at around 8.15 pm on Sunday, the police said.
“The driver was not able to see the divider due to dense fog,” a senior police official said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
