Woman found dead, probe on
A 26-year-old woman was found hanging at her central Delhi residence on Wednesday with the police suspecting the involvement of her in-laws in the incident.
The in-laws of the deceased, identified as Harpreet Kaur, have told the police that she committed suicide while her family has alleged that she took the extreme step because of dowry harassment.
“Kaur was found hanging by her husband, Gurudev Singh, 28, at their Ranjeet Nagar residence. She was rushed to Metro Hospital in Ranjeet Nagar at around 3 pm where the doctors declared her brought dead,” a senior police official said.
Harpreet’s father, Manjeet Singh, has alleged that the Harpreet’s in-laws used to mistreat her.
In his complaint to the police, he has stated that Gurudev had made demands for a car and `2.5 lakhs in cash.
“When we did not meet his demands, Gurudev assaulted my daughter and even asked her to leave the house. He has killed my daughter”. No suicide note has been recovered.
The police said the deceased got married to Singh four year back. Singh, who reportedly works in a multi-national company in Gurgaon, has told the cops police that she was depressed over her failing health. The couple have a two-and-a-half year old son.
The police has sent the body for post-mortem to Metro Hospital and a case has been registered. An inquiry by a sub-divisional magistrate has also been initiated in the matter and the statements of the victim’s family have been recorded.
