Woman jumps off 12th floor, falls on security guard

A 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the 12th floor of a shopping mall but fell on a 28-year-old security guard before hitting the ground. The woman was killed while the security guard suffered critical injuries, sustaining fractures in his back bone and neck.
The incident took place at the Westend Shopping Mall, Janakpuri, in west Delhi. A senior police official said they received a call about the incident at around 11.45 am. The official said the deceased woman has been identified as Chanchal Sharma, a resident of Rohini, while the injured guard has been identified as Sunil Kumar.
“The family members of the deceased have said that she was in depression after a surgery. She had lost weight after the operation. On Wednesday morning, she left home early morning. She went to Westend Mall where she committed suicide,” said the police official.
The official said Chanchal was rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital while the injured guard Sunil was rushed to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital.
Chanchal was declared brought dead at the hospital while the guard has been admitted in the ICU of the hospital. Chanchal used to work with a private firm in Wazirpur area. “We don’t know the exact reason behind her taking the extreme step as the deceased did not leave behind any suicide note. Her family members are saying she was losing weight and this could be a reason,” said the police official.
