Worker’s death in fall sparks violence
A worker fell from an under-construction site at Grand Arch site here on Friday, after which other agitated workers torched a police jeep and damaged more than ten luxury vehicles parked near the site at Sector 58 near village Ghata.
According to the police, the deceased labourer Babul Hasan fell from an under-construction site of Grand Arch, being developed by IREO Private Limited, on Friday afternoon. He was taken to a private hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Around 500 construction workers at the site stopped work and gathered at the site office of the company opposite the construction site alleging that the injured worker was taken late to the hospital by the company because of which he died on the way.
They set ablaze the gypsy of Badshahpur SHO and damaged more than ten luxury vehicles parked around the site.
More police personnel led by deputy commissioner of police (south) Hamid Akhtar were rushed to the spot to bring the situation under control.
Mr Akhtar said the police has lodged an FIR against unnamed workers for damaging government property and private vehicles. But no arrests have been made so far.
On the other hand, the company spokesperson said that the real estate developer IREO Private Limited has assigned the job of construction of these flats to famous construction company L&T Limited.
The construction company said it had taken all precautions and safety measures at the construction site for the safety and well-being of all workers but, unfortunately, the tragic incident happened on Friday.
