Workers, politicians attend funeral
People from faraway places known to liquor baron and real estate businessman Ponty Chadha and his brother Hardeep were present at the last rites ceremony conducted on Sunday at 9.25 pm at the Lodhi Road electric crematorium.
The cremation of two brothers were scheduled to take place at 4.30 pm, but owing to the re-post-mortem conducted on the body of Ponty after the police realised that three bullets were not removed from his body during the same procedure earlier in the day, the ceremony was delayed.
After bodies of Ponty and Hardeep was brought to Lodhi Road electric crematorium in an ambulance, last rites was performed separately by their sons.
Distant relatives, family friends and business associates had started arriving in the crematorium ground since 4 pm. Whereas close relatives were waiting at the Chattarpur farmhouse for their bodies to be released from AIIMS to perform the rituals.
Most of the people gathered at the Lodhi road crematorium ground were staff and business friends of Ponty Chadha, who had covered miles to pay their last respect. “Ponty was a very generous man. He employed many people around the country. I am one of his worker. We never had any direct communication because of his vast empire but I always knew him as my business is directly connected to his,” said one of the many business associate. He added that a meeting will be held soon to decide who will be in-charge of over `6,000-crore business.
Former Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala, member of Parliament (West Delhi) Mahabal Mishra and member of Parliament from Himachal Pradesh Anurag Thakur were among the prominent personalities who attended the cremation.
