Yamuna at 206m, to stay in red
The Yamuna continues to flow over the danger mark and is expected to remain so for another couple of days as Haryana released another 3 lakh cusecs of water into the river on Thursday which is expected to reach the capital by Friday afternoon.
The flood and irrigation department chief engineer, V.P. Tomar, said that at about 9 pm on Thursday the water level in the Yamuna stood at 206.48 metres, about 2 m above the danger mark.
“The water level is expected to recede but it would remain constant at about 205.85 metres, as about 3 lakh cusecs of water has again been released by Haryana from the Hathnikund barrage, which will reach the city by Friday afternoon,” Mr Tomar said.
There was heavy waterlogging in Civil Lines area and the Kashmere Gate Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) was clogged with waist-deep water due to intense rains on Wednesday and choking of drainage. “The waterlogging is due to drainage choking, which will clear by Friday,” said Mr Tomar.
Heavy showers overnight resulted in 195 complaints of waterlogging, 45 of trees falling and 11 of building-damage in the city.
