Yamuna remains above red mark
The Yamuna water level continued to remain above the danger mark and with more water released from Haryana it is likely to rise further. The water has also reportedly entered the outer periphery of Nigambodh ghat.
Delhi mayor and other senior MCD officials inspected the areas along the river bank to check the measures being taken for preventing spread of diseases.
The Yamuna water level touched 205.23 metres, 40 cm above the danger level.
“Today at 12 noon, the water level rose to 205.23 metres. There is nothing to worry as all precautionary measures have been taken,” flood and irrigation minister Raj Kumar Chauhan stated.
The Yamuna was flowing above the danger mark after about 34,600 cusecs of water was released from Hathnikund barrage upstream in Haryana on Monday. However, the engineer-in-chief, Haryana irrigation department stated, “the discharge of water at Hathnikund barrage was reduced to 92,000 cusecs today from 3.24 lakh cusecs two days ago.”
Yamuna was flowing at a level of 205.19 metres, 36 cm above the danger level of 204.83 metres, in the capital late in the evening on Tuesday.
However, a senior Delhi government official added that a large volume of water from the catchment areas in Himachal Pradesh has been reaching the state and it cannot hold or release water from Hathnikund barrage, situated on Yamuna river at the northern most border of Haryana.
