Youth beaten to death by couple
A mentally-challenged youth was beaten to death by a vendor and his wife in Nihal Vihar area on Thursday evening over a trivial issue.
The deceased has been identified as Prakash, 32, a resident of Chandra Vihar area of outer Delhi, the police said. The incident took place in Chandra Vihar when the accused, identified as Jasvir Singh, 55, a junk-food vendor, was returning home with his push cart.
“Prakash, who was standing outside his house, asked him to make an omelette and broke two eggs in the process of handing them over to Singh. This irked Singh and he, along with his wife, Charanjot, caught hold of Prakash. They first demanded compensation for broken eggs and then began assaulting him with a stone and a wooden club, inflicting critical injuries on his head and body,” a senior police official said.
Prakash was taken to nearby Sanjay Gandhi Hospital where he was declared brought dead, the police said. “He had died on the spot,” the official said.
The vendor and his wife, who are neighbours of the deceased, have been arrested and they have been charged with murder. “We are recording the statement of Prakash’s family members. A post-mortem examination report is expected soon,” the official said.
