Youth dies as bike hits divider
Drunken driving claimed the life of a youngster in west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area on Wednesday night when a motorcycle rammed into a road divider, instantly killing one and injuring two others.
The police claimed that the three youth were under the influence of alcohol and were speeding when the crash happened. The deceased has been identified as Arjun, 20 while his friends Ankit, 18, and Rakesh, 19, who were riding pillion, sustained injuries in the accident.
The incident took place at around 10 pm in Maadipur area. Arjun, Ankit and Rakesh were returning to their Raghubir Nagar residence after attending a party. The trio had allegedly consumed liquor at the party at their friend’s residence in Maadipur, the police said.
“Arjun was driving at a high speed and lost control while negotiating a turn in Maadipur. As the bike crashed into a divider, the three fell off and sustained severe injuries. A passerby alerted the police control room and they were taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial hospital where Arjun was declared brought dead while Ankit is under going treatment and is in a critical state. Rakesh has been discharged after first aid,” a senior police official said.
“We have registered a case of negligent driving and the bike has been confiscated,” the official said.
Meanwhile, the Delhi police on Thursday shifted the three children of the 28-year-old woman, who was killed in an accident involving the Mercedes Benz being driven by a politician’s son, to a child care centre.
