Youth killed in trivial row at eatery, 2 held
An altercation over a petty issue at a roadside eatery resulted in the death of a 27-year-old B.Tech. from West Bengal while his friend was critically injured in south Delhi’s Govindpuri area early on Monday.
The incident took place at around 4 am near New Gurdwara on the main Govindpuri road. According to the police, the victims were attacked by a group of inebriated youth with batons and sticks following an argument over getting “paranthas” first.
Shailaja Roy, a resident of Siliguri, died after suffering severe head injury while his friend Siddhartha Roy, 27, a resident of C.R. Park in south Delhi is battling for life at Batra Hospital.
Siddharth has completed his fashion designing course from a private institute and works in his sister’s boutique.
The police has arrested two youth, identified as Vijay and Chetan Chaudhary in connection with the murder. Vijay hails from Jalandhar, Punjab, and works in a BPO. He had recently returned from Australia after higher education. Chaudhary is unemployed and is looking for a job.
The victims had gone to eat at Kallu’s parantha shop in Siddhartha’s black Hyundai Santro car.
“They were eating paranthas from the plates kept on the bonnet of the car when two more youth arrived. The victims had ordered for paranthas which were served to the accused as they had forced the vendor to serve them first. The accused were inebriated and believed that the victims were staring at them and passed some abusive comments that led to an argument between them,” said an investigating officer.
The accused left the spot and returned after ten minutes with batons and sticks and attacked the victims mercilessly. The victims collapsed on the road after which the accused fled.
A passerby made a PCR call and the victims were rushed to AIIMS Trauma Centre where Shailaja was pronounced brought dead. A case of murder was registered and the accused were arrested.
