The cricket food fair
T20 World Cup is nearing its final. And even though India has crashed out of the fray, cricket fans are still pumped up to catch the final round of battle — on big screens and over great food. And tapping the craze, Delhi restaurants have rolled out cricket special menus and great deals for its customers.
Many restaurants have set up big screens to woo the diners. Royal China at Nehru Place is one of them. “Availability of big screens at the restaurant is an excellent alternative for all those who are unable to attend a sporting event or concert live because tickets are otherwise too expensive or unavailable. Friends and family can enjoy the match together at restaurants with their favourite food,” says Aashita Relan, director, Royal China. The speciality restaurant is offering great deals on dishes like crispy aromatic duck; veg mock duck with pancakes, spring onion and cucumber, and stir-fried chicken with chilli oil and spring onion.
Club Rhino too promises a stadium like experience. “Apart from 3 LCD screens, Rhino has a big projector on which people can watch the matches. It is fun to see a match with so many people and this experience comes second only to watching a match in the stadium itself,” says Zukof Arfin from Rhino. The club is offering 5-beer bucket with interesting sounding dishes like Full toss falafal pita with garlic sauce and hummus, Hit wicket potatoes, corn and spinach roesti and No ball spicy meatballs with rubbing thigh jus.
Many city restaurants have come up with unlimited beer options. Rang De Basanti Dhaba is celebrating “World Cup ki dhoom” with an all-Indian fare and unlimited beer refills. And the reservations are building up as the final is nearing. “Final’s week is the time when the number of reservations and queries build up. Since finals happen on Sundays, the guests like to preplan their outing,” says Abhimanyu Maheshwari of RDBD. The restaurant is offering unlimited refills of beer with murg malai kebab, mutton seekh kebab and veg options of achari paneer tikka, mirch malai seekh in a non-stop supply.
Going a step further, Navanda’s at Sunder Nagar has rolled out a World Cup theme menu. With dishes like Bhajji special murg masala, Dhoni ki daal kamaal, Sachin ki pasand paneer pasanda and Kohli Josh-e-gosht, the restaurant plans to make diners’ experience worthwhile. “The reason behind this special menu is to serve something interesting to our patrons. We have tried to make the food more real with the add-on of eatable bat and balls plus interesting names to the dishes,” says Anand Gupta, owner Navanda’s.
